The name “amethyst” derives from the Greek word amethystos, which means “a remedy against drunkenness,” a benefit which has long been associated with the February birthstone by Ancient Greeks. Interestingly, due to its wine-like colour, early Greek mythology also associated the amethyst birthstone with Bacchus, the God of Wine.
The amethyst gemstone has a symbolism that’s strongly tied to love and spirituality.
